City of Pearland Signs Contract with Itron to Upgrade System, Improve Water Efficiency
Itron to Implement OpenWay Riva IoT Solution for Texas Water Utility to Conserve Resources and Enhance Service

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. — July 9, 2018 — Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), which is innovating the way utilities and cities manage energy and water, will install Itron’s OpenWay Riva IoT solution for water plus leak sensors for the City of Pearland, Texas to help reduce water loss and improve delivery of water to its 120,000 customers. The utility will also take advantage of Itron Analytics, a software-as-a-service offering that collects and analyzes data in the network to improve operational awareness.

To increase metering accuracy, improve customer service and provide better water consumption data, the City of Pearland will replace its existing Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system with 37,000 Itron OpenWay Riva water communication modules and leak sensors. With Itron Analytics, the city can make faster, more informed decisions about its operations and better account for water loss. As a part of the contract, Itron will install endpoints, routers and provide overall project management.

“Upgrading the City’s water meter system is a priority because it will allow us to leverage real-time data analysis to improve water loss detection and meter reading” said Robert Upton, director of engineering and capital projects for the City of Pearland. “This investment is part of the plan to transform Pearland into a smart city, by improving quality of life for residents by empowering them with data and tools.”

“Using our OpenWay Riva solution, leak detection and analytics, the City of Pearland will be able to proactively detect leaks and empower customers to conserve water,” said Gavin van Tonder, president of Water, Itron. “This is a great example of how Itron is helping our customers better manage resources and create a more resourceful world.”
